How long do cats stay away from there newborn babies?
asked:
How long is the normal time period (about) ? I know they stay a long time away from them but how long? My cat just had her kittens but i dont know where the are and i know that may seem irresponisible but i didnt find our she was a pregnet till yesterday. I was just about to build a box but when i came home i found a dead kitten that my outdoor dog found….You can guess the rest so i need to figure out how long because she is a small kitty (for her age) and im worried that was the only one. I am a expert on dogs but when it comes to cats im clueless!

momma cats usually don’t stay away from her kittens (when they are first born) for longer than ten or fifteen minutes! if you watch her close when she goes back to them, you can follow her at a seeing distance and see where she goes, then go get the kitties. If she stays away from them for over 20 minutes without going back every little bit and checking on them, then they are probably dead.

Most cats do not leave their newborns for more then a couple of minutes. If she had them outside the could be dead or she may have them hidden. Look around your yard in any place that a cat could crawl into. You might be able to hear the babies mewing. Does momma cat want to go out or seem to miss her kitts.
No mother cat leaves her kittens for very long. Sometimes they stay with them for the 24 hour period after birth. They don’t even eat till they know the babies are all right. I feel bad for your kitty. Get her spayed. Then there won’t be any problems.
