jellybelly asked:

I have 3 cats ranging from 7 years to 2 years. The smallest is 9 lbs and the largest is 22 lbs (this is my biggest concern). Is there one food that will meet all of their needs?

A good quality canned cat food should do the trick. That way the cats will have plenty of protein with not too many carbs.

There are many benefits to canned food - better hydration for older cats, more protein, less weight problems. Less urinary problems . . .

Dry food does not really help out their teeth much, but you can add some dental treats to their diet if feeding just canned.

    Friskies. Lol.

Iams dry food is the best for your cats and you can also give them indoor fir ball formula. Your cats are adults at this point so one kind of food should be fine. Cats really should not have wet food dry is the best. You also might want to ask your vet.

Yes Canned foods no gravy will meet all their needs. There is no reason that dry should be fed.

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don’t use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn’t have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck?

    Please read about cat nutrition.

they can all be on adult food.. I prefer to have cats similar ages to make feeding easier… they need dry food ALL the time..

you didnt say what country you are in so its hard to know what foods to reccomend

    China? Chile? Canada?

follow this link to determine if a food is good or not

the problems with feeding low quality food is they contain lots of FAT to give the pets a shiney coat - but the fat makes your kitty fat.. the foods are so low in nutrition the cat has to eat LOTS of food.. and gets tubby as a result..

you can offer SMALL amounts of canned 1 time a day.. mixed with water to help their urinary tract system..

give less to the chubby cat, or have that one on a different canned food - they need 3 different bowls for their canned food..

a canned food serving should be ONLY 1 teaspoon of food…

as a rule NONE of the foods from grocery or Wal Mart are any good.. and some like SCIENCE DIET are pure crap but are sold by vets.

We have 4 cats varying in age from 2 to 14, and none are overweight. We feed ours Chicken Soup for the Cat Lovers Soul. I think it is an excellent food. We only feed them the dry though.
In my opinion this is a well balance cat food. It is low in magnesium for better urinary tract health.
Go to Chickensoupforthpetloverssoul.com and check out the ingredients. (we also buy the dogfood for our dogs)
It is not easy to find though. I buy it at my local grain store.
One to two times a week, I feed my cats tuna. Just about a tablespoon a piece. My vet recommended tuna in oil, but my cats don’t like it much. So we buy tuna in water. We always have fresh water available.
All our buddies are happy and healthy.

We have six cats, ranging from 6.5 to 29 pounds. One of them has a sensitive stomach, and so we have to limit all of their food to a special kind. We feed them Royal Canin Special 33, and it seems to be helping the bigger ones slim down a bit, and the little ones get bigger.

In addition, Wet food really isn’t an option for us, as we coudln’t afford a higher quality wet food for all six of them. We already spend $80.00 a month on cat food. It is better for overweight cats to become nibblers, and eat a little throughout the day, so we have 5 bowls placed throughout the house with a little food in each of them. The smaller cats get treats, but the big ones don’t.
